I'd like to get t-shirts made for the Webtools team, and Martell advised this was the right place to ask. We would like the front to have something ship-themed (Ship it, Ship All The Things, or something like that), and the back to have a typical Mozilla t-shirt design with the wordmark + "webtools". What else do I need to do to get the ball rolling? Should we come up with our own design for the front, or will someone be able to help? (None of us are designers.) Thank you!

Hi Laura, thanks for filing this. I think I have a few questions, and then may need to bump this over to John (as I am going on PTO soon): * What is the general priority level of this? is it tied to a particular event or just something you'd like to have at some point? (this'll help wrt resources). * If you can share some more ideas (direction) on what you're thinking about it would help. No need to do the design yourself, but it's worth talking about what you're looking for a bit more before jumping into design. * cc-ing Matt who might be helping us with this.

+1 for Tara's questions in comment #1. As background, we can help with this but given that departmental t-shirt projects aren't typically at the top of the overall priority list it'd be great to get a sense of your desired timing so we can plan accordingly. Thanks!

* Before the end of 2012 would be the desired timeline * Creative ideas and theming (I hope this helps - happy to chat on the phone, or whatever( ** I'd like to represent the concepts that we ship, and ship a lot of things ** Representation of high complexity and huge size to reflect the "big data" stuff we do ** Some kind or order from chaos imagery If it's faster/easier I can probably source (at least first draft) artwork from inside webdev. Let me know.

No problem with that deadline at all, thanks Laura. I don't think we'll need to source a first draft from inside webdev, but if you do have any more fleshed out ideas it would be great to hear them. Matt, could you take this? Deadline is pretty loose, but would be great to get it done sooner than later if possible (depending on your own schedule of course).
Hi guys, I would be happy to take this on. Can this be treated as a one-off sort of design, or should it be following the brand closely? Everything seems pretty straight forward with the direction, I'm sure it won't take too much time to get a first round of design to you. Cheers, Matt

PS any designs featuring Ship It Squirrel or a cousin would be looked upon favorably. PPS anything more awesome is perfectly fine too. Thank you Matt!

+1 for going the one-off route. Thanks Matt!
Hi guys, I've attached a t-shirt concept idea featuring a take on the Ship It Squirrel idea. Not sure if this captures exactly what you are going for, but I thought it was pretty comical to look at :) I have this example featured on a yellowish t-shirt colour, but I am open to other suggestions...but some colours may have to adjust in the design itself. For the back I've gone with a basic wordmark lock-up of 'mozilla webtools'..please let me know if there is a more specific logo that needs to be used for this. Cheers, Matt

Excellent, glad you're liking it! Please let me know if there is any further feedback or tweaks necessary...otherwise I can post a print ready Illustrator file along with a positioning recommendation for the front and back sides.

MT: I would love the Illustrator file. How do I get it turned into a shirt?

Once you get the file from Matt, any t-shirt vendor ought to be able to hook you up. I would recommend contacting Kim Duffy at Staples: Kim Duffy <kim.duffy@staplespromoproducts.com>

Hi Laura, Sorry for the delay I've been away for Canadian Thanksgiving without access to my primary computer...unfortunately the earliest I will be able to get you the final illustrator file is first thing Wednesday(Oct.10) morning...I hope this doesn't effect your timelines. Also want to confirm, that the colour t-shirts will be a gold-yellow? Some of the graphic colouring may get lost on certain coloured tees. Thanks! Matt

I only asked because jslater closed the bug yesterday. > Also want to confirm, that the colour t-shirts will be a gold-yellow? Some > of the graphic colouring may get lost on certain coloured tees. > We can do them on a gold-yellow, I'm sure. If that turns out to be a huge problem for some reason, I'll come back to you. Thank you again for the awesome design!

Great, and as for the t-shirt colour, the graphic isn't totally dependent on a gold colour tee, but I would have to make some minor tweaks to the colour scheme if another colour is chosen...either way not a big deal from my end of things. Thanks, glad you like the design!

Hi Laura, I have attached the print ready illustrator files, which include 3 files; the front squirrel logo, the back webtools wordmark, and the mozilla neckline logo. Also included is a jpg of an example layout for how the images may sit on the tshirt. Please let me know if you have any problems with them, or if you decide to go with another colour combo. Cheers, Matt
